Academics

At SILK Schools, the levels of education for pre juniors are Playgroup, Nursery and Kindergarten. The syllabi for all the classes consist of text books of international standards and support material developed by curriculum experts. After completing Elementary Education, students are enabled to avail the opportunity of international education offered by SILK Schools.

Our system is based on the child's developmental needs for freedom within limits, as well as carefully prepared environment which guarantees exposure to materials and experiences. Through this, the child develops intelligence as well as physical and psychological abilities. It is designed to take full advantage of the child's desire to learn and their unique ability to develop their own capabilities.

We expect high standard of work, effort and behavior from our students, enabling them to gain important academic qualifications. We provide a wealth of other opportunities and experiences for learning through sport, art, music, drama and computer technology. We also provide a range of visits and enrichment opportunities. Our main aim is that students will not simply learn specific facts or knowledge, but that they will be taught how to learn, how to solve problems and how to work with others, this will enable them to become independent, life long learner and better able to cope with the demands of adult life in a fast changing society.

All communication in and outside the classroom is done in English to encourage our students to enjoy command over spoken and written English communication and feel confident about it. Not only does the English medium syllabus conform to this objective of ours, but also extra effort is made to polish their writing expressions through interactive English composition writing competitions and spellathons. Developing impressive native accents is one more aspect we concentrate on focusing more on phonetics and pronunciations.

PRE SCHOOL

We believe every child is a special individual with their own needs and should be encouraged to develop an awareness of self-discipline, self-worth and an appreciation of others. Children should learn through play in a caring environment with carefully planned activities that ensure the consideration of all round development of the child.

To a child the pre-school years are a time of wonder and exploration; a time to learn and play. Our pre-school offers children a chance to have fun, make friends and learn through a varied programme of stimulating and enjoyable activities, using a range of resources all tailored to this age group.

We have a large range of toys and equipment, which are included in our planned activities. A variety of implements such as pencils and crayons are available at all times for mark making and writing as well as developing co-ordination and pre-writing skills,  children learn to express themselves through drawing, painting and other creative materials.

Telling stories helps the children's language development and ability to concentrate and absorb information.
Simple counting and pattern activities, weighing and building games, measuring and shape recognition introduce the children to early mathematical concepts.

Running, hopping, climbing and ball games help develop total body coordination as well as promoting health and strength.
Through learning about specific topics such as different lifestyles, animals, occupations etc, the child begins to understand the outside world.

By interacting with other children and adults, each child comes to enjoy sharing and co-operating as part of a group.
In the singing session children sing songs, learn finger rhymes, number songs and play with musical instruments.

Role play - a bedroom corner, dressing-up rail, drawing room, kitchen corner, laundry and more are there for the children to act out their imaginative ideas which are so important for their creative and emotional development.

ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL

We provide a challenging student-centered, project-based studies program where students will develop a strong identity and become inquisitive learners capable of interacting with others in ways that will contribute to success in high school.

We groom our children not only as good students but to make them well mannered, confident and practical members of the society. We teach them to read books and to be aware of the world around them. They thus need explanation of facts and not orders. They learn to care for others and willingness to help others.

We try to balance between academics, sports and co curricular activities in such a way that the students do not feel burdened. Praise be to Allah who gave us the responsibility to teach our children to encourage them and then give them the autonomy to make their own decisions.

Students will develop an awareness of their strengths and weaknesses at a particular skill level, learn what is required to improve, participate in learning experiences to practice and acquire new skills, and immediately apply them in a new project. The relevance of newly acquired skills becomes apparent immediately through this process and success with a complex project will increase academic ability.

Assessment information provides a profile of underlying basic skills needed for a student to be successful in a program of student-centered, project-based learning where students take ownership of their own learning. This information, in addition to previous academic records, as well as, weekly & monthly evaluations, will provide the staff (and students) with the insight and knowledge to determine how s(he) performs in the educational environment.
